Archie Baldwin – A Client’s Story
Archie Baldwin and his wife, Bonnie, came to Jerry Abdalla for legal help in 2010 after Archie was diagnosed with mesothelioma from his exposure to asbestos and asbestos-containing products. Over the next two years, until Archie’s untimely died from mesothelioma in July of 2012, the Baldwin’s and their lawyer Jerry developed a close bond defined as much by friendship as by their lawyer-client relationship.
During Jerry’s representation of the Baldwin family, he secured a significant settlement for Archie and Bonnie Baldwin as the result of Archie’s exposure to asbestos-containing products some 40 years ago while working in a factory. At Archie Baldwin’s request, after Archie’s death, Jerry became the executor of Mr. Baldwin’s estate. However, according to Bonnie Baldwin, Jerry provided them with much more than just solid legal representation.
When Archie reached the point where he could no longer safely drive, Abdalla made regular 20-minute drives from his office in Ridgeland to the Baldwins’ home in Florence to explain documents to them and make sure they were properly executed.
“Jerry was good to my husband—very good,” Bonnie says. “When I’d come home, that’s all I’d hear about. Jerry this, Jerry that. He was his best buddy.”
“Jerry was there for him, and that meant so much to Archie.”
“Jerry is a very honest person. Everything he told us was exactly the way it was. He is a very good lawyer; I’d recommend him to anyone.”
